SID Initiative trains girls from the TechforWomen Academy on SRHR

The TechforWomen Academy is aimed at giving young women an access to education and a career in ICT, enabling them to provide a sustainable future for themselves while pursuing a meaningful career. 

The initiative is aimed at targeting young girls, women with disabilities, school dropouts, within the age bracket 17 – 23 years from underprivileged communities, youths who are victims of gender-based violence, domestic violence, etc, aimed at connecting skilled girls to meet the needs of the labour market.

SID Initiative partnered with Ekobits Academy to facilitate the Sexual Reproductive Health component of the training. The SRHR training involved 6 classes of a 4-hour session. The organization’s Comprehensive Sexuality Education curriculum and facilitators manual was used to facilitate the sessions which comprised 12 topics that spanned across 5 thematic areas namely; Personal Skills, Human body and development, Understanding gender, Relationships, and Sexual Reproductive Health.

The participants were taught the following topics: Values, Self-esteem, goal-setting, assertiveness, relationships, finding help, puberty, human anatomy, gender roles, sexual abuse, sexually transmitted infections, and contraceptives.

A total of 30 girls have been trained so far with a plan to train 60 girls by the end of 2020.
